England’s express pacer Jofra Archer will undergo hand surgery on Monday, a statement from the England Cricket Board confirmed on Saturday. The 25-year-old has also received an additional injection for his right elbow injury that ruled him out of the ongoing ODI series against India, the statement added.

The elbow injury also saw the Barbados-born cricketer miss out on two Test matches earlier in the tour.
Archer’s injury was sustained in a previously undisclosed incident dating back to January, when he suffered a cut to his hand while cleaning his house, the ECB statement confirmed. The injury was managed by a medical team and did not affect his match fitness at the time.

“Jofra Archer will undergo a procedure to his right hand following a scan and subsequent consultant review since he returned to the UK on Tuesday,” the statement read.
“He has also had a further injection for the right elbow injury that had seen him declared unfit for selection for the current ODI series versus India.”
“The procedure on Jofra’s hand will take place on Monday, 29 March so he can recover during the planned break following his elbow injection.”
