Virat Kohli opened up about serving as the captain for team India in T20 on Monday and said, “It’s been an honour for me, I was given the opportunity and I tried to do my best. But it’s also time to create some space and move forward.”

The Indian skipper almost confirmed Rohit Sharma as his replacement as India’s T20 captain, saying the senior opener has been “overlooking things for a while now”. 

“I’ve been immensely proud of how the team has played. Now I think it’s time for the next lot to stake this team forward. Obviously Rohit is here and he’s overlooking things for a while now,” Kohli said during the toss ahead of India’s final T20 World Cup match against Namibia here.

Rohit, Kohli’s white-ball deputy, is expected to take over India’s T20 leadership once the three-match series against New Zealand begins on November 19 at home.

Kohli confirmed his decision to step down as captain of the T20 team before the World Cup. In addition, he has resigned as captain of his IPL team, Royal Challengers Bangalore. 

There is talk that the superstar batter may lose his ODI captaincy in the near future.

In his final game as India’s T20 captain, Virat Kohli won the toss on Monday. In their final Super 12 match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Dubai, UAE, the 2007 champions, who failed to enter the semifinals, bowl first against Namibia.

Both India and Namibia made one change to their playing XI from their previous match. Rahul Chahar replaced Varun Chakravarthy for India, while Jan Frylinck replaced Karl Birkenstock for Namibia.
