Serbian tennis star and current Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic has confirmed that he will be joining hands with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray as part of the Team Europe in the upcoming 2022 edition of the Laver Cup. The 2022 edition, which will mark the competition’s fifth year in existence, will be organised in London, between September 23-25.
Djokovic recently emerged as the Wimbledon champion, where he defeated Nick Kyrgios in the final of the tournament. A teammate of Djokovic in Team Europe, Nadal was scheduled to face Kyrgios in the semifinals, however, forfeited after he picked up an abdominal injury in the quarterfinal.

The victory of the Serbian tennis maverick also helped him win his 21st Grand Slam title earlier this year, surpassing Roger Federer. He is currently one Grand Slam short of equaling the record of Rafael Nadal (22) as the player with most Grand Slam in the history of tennis.
“I’m really excited to be joining Team Europe again for the Laver Cup at London’s O2 arena in September,” Djokovic said.
“It’s the only competition where you can play in a team environment with guys that you’re normally competing against and to be joining Rafa, Roger and Andy – three of my biggest all-time rivals – it’s going to be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport,” he added.
Djokovic will participate in the Laver Cup after an absence of four years. The last time he participated in the tournament was in 2018, when it was organised in Chicago, US. This is also the first time ever when all three highest Grand Slam winners — Rafael Nadal (22), Novak Djokovic (21) and Roger Federer (20) have teamed up in the competition.

Apart from the three, Andy Murray will also be joining Team Europe, which still has two spots left to fill.
Meanwhile, Team World, who will be competing against their European counterparts, includes Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime, America’s Taylor Fritz and Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman.
Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe will act as the captains of Team Europe and Team World respectively.
