Although the Philadelphia Phillies are the most-inform team in Major League Baseball (MLB), they have a bit of rough news coming their way as their first baseman will be out for the next few days.
Rhys Hoskins was placed on the 10-day injured list with a groin injury on Tuesday afternoon, retroactive to August 7. To replace the baseman, outfielder Mickey Moniak was called up.

Hoskins has been dealing with a groin injury for quite some time. He missed the Pirates’ series last weekend, returned to pinch-hit and start three games against the Nationals last week, and then sat out the Mets’ series this past weekend. Last Thursday, Hoskins doubled in the go-ahead run, but he didn’t run well.
“It’s not to the point where it was when he hurt it the first time,” manager Joe Girardi said prior to the Mets series, according to NBC reports. “Part of it is me telling him to conserve it, I told him to be smart. But he’s probably going to deal with this for a while and we’ve got to try to keep him good enough to keep him off the IL.”
Although Hoskins took batting practice and ground balls Tuesday, reportedly, the results didn’t come through as well as the team would have hoped. So it’s obvious that the groin injury hasn’t improved.
He hasn’t played since August 5, but as injured list stays may only be backdated three days, it’s August 7. When the Phillies begin a road trip in Arizona on August 17, he’ll be eligible to take the field.
Hoskins, 28, is hitting .244/.332/.509 with 24 home runs this season, including .318/.438/.718 with seven home runs in 26 games since July 1, according to NBC reports.
Meanwhile, utility man Brad Miller has stepped in at first base as Hoskins deals with the prolonged groin issue.
The Phillies face the Dodgers in the first game of the series on Tuesday. The Philadelphia side have won their past eight games and climbed to the top of the National League East standings.
