In yet another personnel switcheroo in the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies agreed to a trade deal on Friday for forward Juancho Hernangomez to the Boston Celtics in exchange for guards Carsen Edwards and Kris Dunn, as well as a swap of 2026 second-round picks, US media reported.

However, the deal cannot be completed until September 15 before Dunn is traded along with other players after being traded to Boston in a separate deal last month, according to ESPN reports.

Meanwhile, Hernangomez’s time with the Grizzlies too didn’t last long, as he was acquired by Memphis from Minnesota at the end of August from the Minnesota Timberwolves, along with guard Jarrett Culver, for another recently traded guard, Patrick Beverley.

The previous season, Hernangomez averaged 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in his first full season with the Timberwolves after signing a three-year, $21 million contract as a restricted free agent with Minnesota last offseason.

Minnesota had traded for Hernangomez the prior season as part of a multi-team deal that saw Robert Covington wind up with the Houston Rockets and Clint Capela going to the Atlanta Hawks.

The 25-year-old injured his left shoulder earlier this summer, forcing him to miss playing in the Tokyo Olympics last month with the Spanish national team.

Meanwhile, Hernangomez will be able to help bolster the bench for a Celtics squad that has made a plethora of moves over the offseason. In addition to trading for Hernangomez, Boston has also signed both Robert Williams and Marcus Smart to extensions, traded for Al Horford and Josh Richardson, and signed Enes Kanter and Dennis Schroder in free agency.

They also hired Ime Udoka to be the team’s new head coach following Brad Stevens’ move to the front office.

Hernangomez, a career 35% 3-point shooter, will provide depth at power forward for the Celtics, a position where they didn’t have an apparent fit on their second unit.

Dunn, who signed a two-year deal with the Hawks last summer, missed nearly all of last season due to knee and ankle problems.

Rajon Rondo, who was acquired in one of those trades, was also recently bought out by the Grizzlies. Later this week, Rondo signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
