Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat failed to qualify for the women’s 25m pistol final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Friday. While Manu finished with a total point of 582, Rahi finished with 573 points.

In Precision, Manu got 97 in her first series, 97 in second and 98 in the third to get a total score of 292 and followed it up with 96, 97 and 97 in three series in Rapid to get a total score of 290.

Rahi shot 96 in series one, 97 in the second series and 94 in the third in the Precision round to get a total score of 287. In the Rapid, she hit 96, 94 and 96 in each respective series to accumulate a score of 286.

It means the pistol shooters will return home empty-handed for the second straight time at the Olympics.

Earlier on Thursday, the Indian shooters were placed 5th and 25th respectively in the women’s 25m pistol qualification (precision).

In a field of 44 shooters, Bhaker scored 292 after 30 shots on target in the precision round while compatriot Sarnobat aggregated 287 in the qualifications at the Asaka Shooting Range.

The second stage of the qualification — the rapid round — took place today. The top-8 shooters in the qualification will enter the final.

In the third relay, Bhaker had a fine start as the 19-year-old shooter shot back-to-back 97s in the first two series. With just two 9s in the third, Bhaker accumulated 98 points to climb into the top-5.

Bhaker came back strongly to score five 10s off her last five shots after three points in the second series.

Osijek World Cup gold medallist Sarnobat, who was in the first relay of 10 shooters, started the precision round with a 96 and followed it with a 97.

Her total in the precision rounds was 287/300 which placed her 7th out of 10 in her relay.

In her first event — women’s 10m air pistol — she lost nearly 20 minutes during the qualifications due to a major weapon malfunction and slipped after being in the reckoning at the start.

Partnering Saurabh Chaudhary, Bhaker had a disastrous outing in the mixed 10m air pistol event as the duo failed to qualify for the finals after leading the first phase of qualifying. In her last event on Friday, from fifth place she dropped out of the top-8 and could not recover from there.
