Sanjeet Kumar is one of the 12 Indian boxers participating in the Commonwealth Games 2022. He will be India’s big hope for a medal in boxing. Sanjeet won a gold medal in the 2021 Asian Boxing Championships.
Sanjeet, the second Indian boxer to win gold at ABC 2021, defeated the Rio Olympic silver medalist Vassiliy Levit to register his first gold medal in Asian Championships. The 26-year-old heavyweight boxer from Haryana is eyeing another gold; this time in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Sanjeet Kumar wasn’t interested in boxing initially. His brother asked him to join a boxing academy because he saw talent in his younger brother. Sanjeet said in an interview to Indian Express, ‘’I was not actually aware of the talent that I had. My brother used to tell me that I have a lot of spark in me. After joining the Army my coaches also pushed me a lot. They supported me a great deal.’’

Sanjeet joined the Indian Army in 2015 and it took him 2 years to get into the national camp. In that camp, Sanjeet said that he met some of the best boxing talent in the country. ‘’Having met with some quality internationals, it was a given that I could only improve. I knew if I compete with the best in the business, I’ll become a better athlete.’’

Sanjeet, the southpaw from Jhajjar, has got the reputation of a giant killer. Three years before his Asian Championships triumph, Sanjeet defeated the world bronze medalist Sanjar Tursunov of Uzbekistan. Sanjeet has recovered from his bicep surgery and is raring to make his debut at CWG 2022.

Talking to ANI Sanjeet said, “My practice and preparations for the Commonwealth Games are going really great. I am so excited to represent my country in the games. There is some tough competition for medals but I will give my 100 percent.’’
