Microsoft, on Wednesday, confirmed that Windows 10X will not be launched commercially, instead, some of its features will be brought in mainstream Windows 10. In its blog post, the tech giant further went on to say that customers, including PC makers, do not want10X.

“Following a year-long exploration and engaging in conversations with customers, we realized that the technology in Windows 10X could be used in more ways and serve more customers than we originally imagined. We concluded that the 10X technology shouldn’t just be confined to a subset of customers,” Microsoft’s blog post read.
This announcement comes a few days after a report claimed that Windows 10X’s resources were being shifted to other Windows 10 versions. Windows 10X was originally planned for a 2020 release but Microsoft pushed the date to May 2021.

The latest OS was supposed to function on dual-screen devices and foldable PCs. It was to be an alternative to Google’s Chrome OS.
“Instead of bringing … Windows 10X to market in 2021 like we originally intended, we are leveraging learnings from our journey thus far and accelerating the integration of key foundational 10X technology into other parts of Windows in Windows Insider preview builds.”
“For example, the new app container technology we’re integrating into products like Microsoft Defender Application Guard, an enhanced Voice Typing experience, and a modernized touch keyboard with optimized key sizing, sounds, colors, and animations.”
“Our teams continue to invest in areas where the 10X technology will help meet our customer needs as well as evaluate technology experiences both in software and hardware that will be useful to our customers,” the blog added.

The Windows 10X was supposed to come with the Surface Neo interface. The surface would’ve allowed a user to operate with a stylus and also a magnetic keyboard.
It would’ve allowed the user to switch seamlessly between portrait and landscape mode. Along with a smart Start menu, WindowsX devices was developed to work in five different postures – like a book, tablet, laptop, dual tablet and tent.

Windows retires the great old internet explorer
After serving for more than two-and-a-half decades the Internet Explorer has been canceled by Microsoft. The company announced that Internet Explorer will retire on June 15, 2021.
“The Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired and go out of support on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10.” Sean Lyndersay, a Microsoft Edge program manager said while commenting on the decision.
