The cast of the movie ‘Avengers’ held a virtual fundraiser for the Biden Campaign over zoom to mark the birthday of Democratic Vice-President nominee Kamala Harris on Tuesday night where they got to quiz her.
Harris was accompanied by Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr.
Emphasizing on the need of the virtual event, Avenger’s director Anthony Russo began the session by saying, “Shockingly, it feels like the fate of the universe is once again on the line.”
“Like all of you, I look forward to electing a president who’s moral and ethical code includes putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own—kind of like Captain America,” Anthony added.
During the fundraiser, Harris weighed in on how a real leader should be and manifested her fascination for America’s most favorite superhero, Captain America.
“That, I think is the true sign of patriotism, Captain America, it is about knowing we love our country and we are willing to fight for its integrity and fight for the values we hold dear,” Harris said.
She further added, “I think that people deserve an equal commitment from their president when it comes to that kind of fight and that willingness to suit up, and I think that’s what you’re going to get from Joe Biden.”
Kamala also paid tribute to late Chadwick Boseman, the quintessential actor to play ‘Black Panther’ and died from cancer in August.
The fundraiser however invited critical backlash on social media with comments expressing dissatisfaction on Kamala taking questions from celebrities instead of journalists.
“It seems easier for Avengers to question her than journalists” said one such comment.
Amongst the criticisers was also, ABC News Chief, Jonathan Karl, who took it to Twitter and scorned Harris for not being accessible to press reporters.
However, Harris was not the only one on the receiving end of such condemnation but Avengers’ fame Chris Pratt, known for his apolitical ideology, who was criticised for not showing up to the Biden campaign fundraiser.
The Biden-Harris campaign have made minimal public and media interactions ever since their nomination announcement, subjecting themselves to accusations of not getting enough exposure as Donald Trump.
Meanwhile, Harris expressed gratitude for the Avengers star cast on Twitter on Wednesday.
