A 30-year wait for the 19th title finally came to an end for Liverpool as they lifted the Premier League trophy last season. Jurgen Klopp’s men claimed the league with 99 points, two more than when runners-up Manchester City won it in 2018-19. They were able to achieve the feat with seven games to spare while staying undefeated at home. Having said that, defending their title this season will not be an easy job.

Virgil van Dijk will once again be the rock-solid defensive pillar. The Dutch centre-back, who played each and every match for Liverpool last season will continue to be vital for the team. One of the best full-back pairs in the world right now, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are expected to continue their brilliance. They were only behind Kevin de Bruyne last season, in terms of assists. One of the youngsters who proved his mettle the most last season was Rhian Brewster scored 11 goals in 22 appearances after his move in January. Klopp will definitely give more playing time to the young forward in the upcoming season.

Right now, it seems that Liverpool have their eyes on just one player, Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. With the departure of Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana, and missing out on Timo Werner, the team is looking at some lack of depth. Although they have strengthened their left-back cover with  Kostas Tsimikas, the lack of squad depth might haunt them deep into the season.
