Liverpool are set to reach an agreement with Scottish fullback, Calvin Ramsay, on personal terms. The Premier League club already made an offer to Ramsay’s current home Aberdeen. While the Anfield side is confident of reaching an agreement, talks are ongoing, since Aberdeen wants around €10 million ($10.5 million) including add-ons, Fabrizio Romano reported.

Scotland has produced a long line of impressive defenders in recent times including Liverpudlian Andrew Robertson, Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, and Nathan Patterson, who’ll play for Everton in the new season. The 18-year-old Ramsay also caught Liverpool’s eye, having won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association’s young player of the year award in April.

Jurgen Klopp looks to infuse new blood into the team and has gone for a youth drive, adding Fabio Carvalho and Ben Doak, from Fulham and Celtic, to the squad as well.

However, the interest in the latest full-back is more to bolster squad depth than to build out the first team. Trent Alexander-Arnold, the English professional footballer, is still set to retain his position on the squad, and since Ramsay plays in the same position, the newcomer would be a great stand-in if Alexander-Arnold were to be injured or in need of rest.

The young Scotsman offers Liverpool an attacking option down the right flank quite similar to what Alexander-Arnold does. Ramsay had 42 key passes in the last Scottish Premiership season.

Ramsay, like Alexander-Arnold, also isn’t averse to sending the ball into the opposition box and has had 6.3 crosses per game with a cross success rate of 26.3%. With Klopp and Alexander-Arnold as possible guides, Ramsay would have a chance to improve the attacking side of his game.

Elsewhere, Liverpool will see Darwin Nunez arrive from Benfica to improve the team’s forward line. The Uruguayan is expected to be on the receiving end of Alexander-Arnold’s set-piece deliveries, and the Ramsay signing could mean that Liverpool will have another player to turn to for delivering the ball to strikers.
