With the Tokyo Olympics just around the corner, Kevin Durant scored 17 points to get the United States men’s basketball team back on track, after consecutive defeats, with a convincing 108-80 victory against Argentina in an exhibition match on Tuesday.

The reigning Olympic champions haven’t had the best start to their Olympic preparations as they suffered defeats to Nigeria and Australia in the opening two games of their Las Vegas training camp before heading to Tokyo for the Olympics next week.

But Gregg Popovich’s men put on display a more polished performance and Tuesday’s victory feel like Team USA have found their mojo back. Durant led the offensive line at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, as he was one of five US players to finish in double figures with the Brooklyn Nets star hauling down six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Bradley Beal added 17 points while Zach LaVine chipped in with 15. Portland’s Damian Lillard added 13 points which included a trio of three-pointers.

Just appearing for 18 minutes and 19 seconds, Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo impressed with 12 points.

“We played with more intensity,” Adebayo said. “We really honed in on the defensive side and were really locked in. We were just playing basketball, reading off each and making plays. That’s our gift.”

In the first quarter, Team USA looked like the force to reckon with as Adebayo and Beal collaborated to take a 33-19 lead.

The second quarter felt almost like a highlight reel as LaVine and Draymond Green played to the crowd with their fancy dunks and fake passes. But it was led by Kevin Durant’s 14 points, taking Team USA’s lead to 58-42 into halftime.

The American men’s basketball team capped the final two quarters off with an incredible forward display as Durant and Beal led the way with 17 points each.

For Argentina, former NBA player Luis Scola led the scoring, with the 41-year-old veteran finishing with 16 points, while Nicolas Laprovittola added 13 points and Facundo Campazzo had 12.

Next up, the United States will take on Australia in a rematch in a warm-up game on Friday before completing their training camp with a sendoff game against Spain on Sunday.
