Many former and present Sri Lankan cricket players have expressed their concerns about the current state of affairs in their motherland as Sri Lanka experiences one of the biggest crises since its independence. Before moving to an anti-government protest location outside the presidential office, hundreds of supporters of the ruling party congregated outside the official mansion of PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, the president's older brother. World Cup-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga, on Tuesday, urged Sri Lankan players to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) and speak out about the crisis their country is facing. Several Lankans like Wannindu Hasaranga (RCB), Dushmantha Chameera(LSG) and Bhanuka Rajapaksha (PBKS) are playing in India while the legends Mahela Jayawardene (MI), Kumar Sangakarra (RR) and Lasith Malinga (RR) are coaching. ,Sri Lanka, hit by its worst economic crisis, on Tuesday announced debt default. Unfortunately, people are scared to speak against the government. These cricketers are also working for the cricket board under the ministry and they are trying to protect their jobs. But now they have to take a step as some of the young cricketers also came forward and gave statements in support of the protest, Arjuna Ranatunga told ANI. Ravichandran Ashwin opened up about Rajasthan Royals' decision to retire him against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday. The off-spinner echoed what his coach Kumar Sangakarra and skipper Sanju Samson said - descrbing it as a 'team call'. ,Ashwin was batting on 28 runs off 23 balls in the 19th over of the first innings when RR called him back to the dug out. He was declared retired out. Rajasthan Royals' captain Sanju Samson and head coach Kumar Sangakarra said that Ravichandran Ashwin's 'retired out' was the right call to make at the time. The off-spinner, on Sunday, became the first player in the IPL and fourth overall to be retired out. ,The Royals defeated the Lucknow Super Giants by three runs at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. ,Ashwin was batting on 28 runs off 23 balls when he was called off the field in the 19th over. The 35-year-old was replaced by hard-hitter Riyan Parag. We keep trying different things. Have been talking about it before the season. We thought that if some situation occurs, we can use it.
