Amid the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the US, courtesy of the highly transmissible omicron variant, a snow leopard that tested positive for COVID-19 has died at a zoo in Bloomington, Illinois. The Miller Park Zoo, in an Instagram post on Thursday, announced the death of the snow leopard, which it said had been struggling with COVID-induced pneumonia after it contracted the disease in November 2021. The snow leopard, named Rilu, had arrived at the Miller Park Zoo from the Oklahoma City Zoo in 2011, and produced seven snow leopard cubs that are now part of the Miller Park Zoo's Species Survival Plan (SSP). Rilu’s personality and beauty will be missed by guests and staff, but he will not be forgotten, the Miller Park Zoo said, bidding farewell to Rilu. This is not the first-time a big cat has died of COVID-19 or associated complications. Earlier in December, three snow leopards also succumbed to complications arising from COVID-19 at the Lincoln Children's Zoo in Nebraska, while two Sumatran tigers were lucky enough to recover from the debilitating disease. Within seconds, the leopard is seen jumping over the gate and chasing the dog off-camera. After a while, the leopard is seen jumping out of the gate with the dog in its mouth. A man in Karnataka’s Hassan district killed a leopard with
his bare hands in a bid to save himself and his family, after the animal leaped
out of bush and charged at him, his wife and their child. Rajagopal Naik, a
resident of Bendekere village in Karnataka’s Arasikere taluk, about 180 kilometres
from Bengaluru, was riding back home when the incident occurred.,The leopard initially attacked the child, and then
subsequently tried to attack his wife. Reportedly, Rajagopal at this moment held
the animal by its neck and hit it on its head. The leopard, though taking a few
swipes at Rajagopal a few times, could not succeed as it gradually died of
suffocation due to him tightening his grip around its neck, as per various

A stray dog and leopard were locked in a bathroom together for over seven hours but neither of them made a move and the canine came out unscratched. ,It all began with the <a href="https://opoyi.com/leopard-spotted-at-bengaluru-apartment-creates-panic-among-residents">leopard</a> chased the canine and both entered the bathroom around 7 am in Karnataka’s Bilinele village on Wednesday. Soon, a house owner saw the leopard's tail and locked the door before alerting the residents and the police.&nbsp;,"Leopard was chasing this dog. Both entered into a house and got into a toilet. Family members locked the door from outside. It happened in Kadaba, Dakshina Kannada district.&nbsp;Later FD rescued the leopard or the dog in this case.&nbsp;Currently this dog kind of a celebrity in region," tweeted Indian Forest Service Office Praveen Kaswan.,The animals were stuck together in the bathroom till 2pm while the authorities decided on their course of action. The incident took place at the&nbsp;Prestige Songh of the South apartment complex in Bengaluru's Bannerghatta Road.&nbsp;,Reports stated that a milkman spotted the animal in the complex and alerted the police and forest officials, who rushed to the spot around 6 am on Saturday. The leopard, however, couldn't be traced even after a 6-hour search operation. The animal was believed to have entered the apartment from the&nbsp;nearby Bannerghatta forest.,As soon as the leopard was spotted in the apartment by the milkman, the residents received a WhatsApp message asking them to not step out of their homes.&nbsp;The residents of the nearby complexes were also alerted.,“Dear residents, there was a leopard spotted in Prestige Song of South and police and forest officials are doing the combing operations. Coronavirus has claimed its new victims
in the animal kingdom. Three snow leopards – one female cat NeeCee and two
males, Kimti and Meru, at the Louisville Zoo have supposedly tested positive
for the virus, the New York Times reported.,The cats are showing minor symptoms of coughing
and wheezing. The Kentucky Zoo is hoping to see an uncomplicated recovery. Their
symptoms resemble those of the tigers and lions at the Bronx Zoo that tested
positive in April.,COVID-19 testing is different for animals
and humans.,The
Louisville Zoo sent fecal samples to the University of Illinois Veterinary
Diagnostic Laboratory, where initial tests showed the snow leopards to be
positive. The samples were then forwarded to the National Veterinary Services
Laboratories in Ames, which provided confirmation for the female snow leopard.
