At least two people have been reported dead while 10 others are missing after a board overturned on Thursday off the coast of Key West, a city in Florida.

Petty Officer Jose Hernandez, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard said that as of 5 p.m the U.S. Coast Guard was still searching for the missing people, reported NBC.

Around eight people have already been rescued by the US Coast Guard around 1 pm while other rescue missions, involving multiple units from the Coast Guard, are underway.

Details about the incident, including the destination of the vessel or its type, have not been determined so far as officials continue to locate the boat, according to NBC Miami.

“USCG assets rescued 8 people and recovered 2 bodies from the water at approximately 1 p.m., Thursday, 18 miles southwest of #KeyWest. #USCG assets are currently searching for another 10 possible people in the water”, the southeast division of the US Coast Guard wrote on Twitter.

The search efforts of the Coast Guard are being aided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, reported NBC.
