Out of the total 252 votes recorded in favour of establishing an independent commission to investigate the January 6 riots at the US Capitol, 35 were received from members of the Republican party, who did not hesitate to cross party lines.
All of the GOP lawmakers who voted to impeach former US President Donald Trump for allegedly inciting the violence on January 6, 2021 showed similar strategies at the House meeting on Wednesday and reportedly voted in favour of the legislation.
These Republican leaders included Representatives John Katko, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, Fred Upton, Jaime Herrera Beutler, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez, Peter Meijer, Tom Rice and David Valadao, according to reports from CNN.

Other names on the list included Representatives Andrew Garbarino, David Joyce, David McKinley, Rodney Davis among others.
The majority of GOP members in the House attempted to downplay the violent situation that erupted at the US Capitol only a few months before. The US Capitol was attacked by a mob, filled with supporters of former US President Donald Trump, to stop the certification of votes after US President Joe Biden was declared as the winner of the 2020 presidential elections.
The bill will now make its way to the US Senate, where if opposed, the legislation would require 60 votes to be instated, reported CNN.
