Six people were found shot to death in a remote area of the Mojave Desert near El Mirage, Southern California, authorities reported.
In a grim discovery, law enforcement officials found the bodies of six individuals shot to death in a desolate stretch of the Mojave Desert near El Mirage, Southern California. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a wellness check call off Highway 395 around 8:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
The initial discovery of five bodies led to an ongoing investigation, with the sixth body found the following Wednesday morning. Details surrounding the circumstances, identities, and causes of death remain undisclosed as authorities work diligently to gather evidence.
The crime scene, located approximately 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles, proved so remote that assistance from the California Highway Patrol’s Aviation Division was required. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department’s specialized investigations division is leading the homicide investigation.
Two vehicles were found at the scene—one, a dark-colored SUV, exhibited bullet holes and shattered windows, while the other, a light-colored van, faced the opposite direction. The graphic nature of the scene prevented aerial footage from being aired on television.
The bodies of the victims, some displaying burn injuries, were strewn on the ground, surrounded by evidence markers and bullet casings. The desolate location, about 15 miles north of Adelanto and 20 miles north of Victorville, emphasizes the remoteness of the area.
No information regarding the victims’ identities, ages, or sexes has been released at this point. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate several more hours before the removal of bodies from the scene can commence.
