The Blanca Police Department (BPD) said that its officers are responding to reports of an active shooter in the Colorado town.
All community members in or near the town have been asked to shelter in place Wednesday afternoon on Dec. 7 until the suspect is captured and the situation is under control.
“Everyone in or near the Town of Blanca, please remain in your houses and do not exit until told it is safe to do so! We currently have an active shooter on the west side of town! We will update this post as information becomes available. Stay away from all windows and open areas,” the BPD wrote in a statement on Twitter. “Multiple law enforcement agencies are in the area.”
There is no further information at this time, police said.
The Sierra Grande School District said that all Sierra Grande Schools are on a lock-out due to the situation. The school district canceled all evening activities.
It is currently not known if any shots were fired or anyone injured.
This is a developing story.
