China congratulated
US president-elect Joe Biden on Friday, nearly a week after the declared the
winner of the American election, PTI reported. For the first time
after formal ties being established four decades ago, the bilateral relations
between the United States and China has nearly frozen. With the US under the Trump administration constantly imposing economic sanctions and China globally establishing
economic-developmental networks as well as inching towards a position at par
with America’s global outreach, the relations between the two countries have grown
increasingly strained.

“We respect the
choice of the American people. We express our congratulations to Mr Biden and
Ms Harris,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a press briefing
while referring to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Noticeably, China
has been one of several major countries including Russia and Mexico to not
congratulate the new president-elect of the United States. Beijing commented
earlier this week that it had “noticed Mr Biden declared he is the winner”.

Since the US media
has called the Presidential race, Trump has not conceded and instead has alleged voter-fraud being committed in states where Biden took the lead in later
phases, banking on mail-in ballots.

Under his ‘America
First’ motto, Trump has portrayed China as the greatest threat to United States
and global democracy.
