A passenger onboard a Metra BNSF train was killed and four others were injured after the train struck a semitrailer in west suburban Clarendon Hills in Illinois on Wednesday morning.
Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said the injured included two other passengers and two BNSF employees. All injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.
“All of us on Metra and BNSF Railway are devastated by this death and we will be working hand-in-hand with the NTSB to find out what happened,” Gillis said in a statement.
The identity of the woman who died in the accident was not revealed.
Metra train service was suspended “indefinitely” after the incident and riders were asked to seek alternative transportation for their commute.
