With the prosecution team for the impeachment trial of former US president Donald Trump expected to wrap up their arguments on Thursday, the proceedings attempting to mount a case of fuelling insurrection are likely to end in acquittal of the former president. Democrats have accused Trump of inciting the January 6 Capitol Hill riots and are working hard to prevent him from contesting elections ever again.
Bone-chilling video evidence was displayed to substantiate the Democrats’ argument against Trump throughout the impeachment proceedings, portraying harrowing details of the Capitol Hill violence, which left a total of five people dead.

There exist reasons, however, which might potentially prove all the efforts to impeach the 45th President of the United States of America to be fruitless. Here are four reasons why the Senate will not be able to convict him:
Trump remains a force within the Republican Party. Republicans need to win primaries in their own party before they go on to fight the general elections. Trump-supported candidates have consistently won their primaries.

Additionally, Trump is vindictive and will definitely try to punish anyone who votes against him. He’s already mobilised support against Liz Cheney and others who did so in the House of Representatives.
Why the Democrats are persisting with this trial they know will result in Trump’s acquittal:
They are mobilising public support against the Republican Party. Every gruesome image that plays out on TVs gets ingrained in the minds of voters, especially independent voters.
They are documenting the pushback from the Republican senators and how they are voting. This will play up in the next Senate and house races two years later.
