After arriving in Washington on the eve of his Presidential inauguration, US President-elect Joe Biden paid his tribute to the Americans who succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 disease since the start of the pandemic. Just hours before national tribute, the death toll in the US crossed 4,00,000, reported AFP.
Biden, who was already emotional and teary-eyed when he bid farewell to his hometown right before departing for Washington, said, “It’s hard sometimes to remember, but that’s how we heal. It’s important to do that as a nation”, as the lights which surrounded the edges of the reflecting pool were lit up as a memorial to those who died.

The President-elect, who has urged the people of America to demonstrate unity in these difficult times, added, “Let us shine the lights in the darkness along with the sacred pool of reflection and remember all who we lost”, reported AFP.
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, who will be taking their oaths as the President and Vice-President of the United States, both attended the memorial for the ones who lost their lives due to the pandemic.
Just hours before the event, the outgoing US President Donald Trump, for the first time ever, made positives remarks for the incoming administration and wished them success. However, the traditional tea in the Oval Office along with the official congratulating statement still remain undone by the outgoing President.
