The “Dark Brandon” meme is featured on a $32 T-shirt that is being sold by President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign. In a 3-minute video posted on Tuesday morning, Biden formally declared his desire to seek reelection in 2024.

A $32 “Dark T-shirt” with an image of Biden with red laser eyes and the number “2024” around it is one of the things for sale on Biden’s campaign website. According to Biden’s campaign website, the shirt is “best worn while vanquishing malarkey.”

Biden-world first adopted the meme when Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act in August.At the moment, Andrew Bates, the White House’s deputy press secretary, tweeted, “Dark Brandon is crushing it.”

The meme envisions a more merciless Biden by fusing the anti-Biden “Let’s Go Brandon” slogan with the “Dark MAGA” look.

It first appeared online as a sarcastic retort to people who shared “Dark MAGA” memes, a group that envisions a world in which a radicalized, authoritarian Trump takes back the White House and is out for vengeance.

Since then, the right has mostly abandoned the Dark MAGA meme, presumably as a result of the rise of “Dark Brandon.”

In the meanwhile, Biden formally declared on Tuesday that he will run for president again in 2024. The 80-year-old Democrat, who is the oldest US president in history, may run against Donald Trump once more after the latter declared his intention to run for office earlier.

In the three minute video shared, Biden said –

“Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms. I believe this is ours. That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States.” The video opens with imagery from the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump. Freedom. Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans. There’s nothing more important. Nothing more sacred. That’s been the work of my first term – to fight for our democracy. To protect our rights. To make sure everyone in this country is treated equally. And that everyone is given a fair shot at making it.”

Due to his age, Biden’s reelection campaign represents a historic and dangerous bet for the Democratic Party. Republicans have made it a point of attack, while Biden’s supporters claim that his age “reflects the experience he has for the job.”
