Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden is being investigated by
federal authorities over tax affairs, junior Biden said on Wednesday, AFP reported.

“I learned yesterday for the first time that the US
Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that
they are investigating my tax affairs,” Hunter Biden said in a statement
released by his father’s presidential transition team.

Hunter Biden was targeted by President Donald Trump during his
presidential debates with President-elect Joe Biden over his connections
with a private Ukrainian oil firm.

Trump alleged a quid pro quo between the Bidens and the oil firm
in Ukraine, saying that the Hunter Biden got the job there only because the
company wanted to leverage his relation with Joe Biden, who was then Vice
President of the country.

“I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that
a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I
handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of
professional tax advisors,” Biden statement read.

Hunter Biden, 50, is a lawyer who has founded consulting and
investment firms, worked in private equity, and served on the board of various
organizations including national railroad corporation Amtrak, AFP wrote.

He was born in Wilmington, Delaware, where the transition
process of his father’s presidential takeover is based.

Biden, the elder son of Joe Biden, has been assailed by
accusations by the Republicans, stating in effect, that he was used by the Ukrainian oil firm Burisma to get to his father.

Biden has admitted to his drug abuse problems too in the past.

The New York Post reported in October that the Federal
Bureau of Investigation seized a laptop in December 2019, which, the paper
alleged, carried some of the emails establishing the Ukrainian connection.

The tabloid’s twitter handle was suspended by twitter when
the story was shared on the social media site in October, to be reinstated two weeks later.

Some Republican lawmakers this week have called for current
Attorney General Bill Barr to launch an independent investigation of Hunter
Biden before Joe Biden takes office on January 20.

“This is why AG Barr needs to appoint a Special Counsel
to investigate Hunter Biden,” congressman Ken Buck posted on Twitter
following the revelation of the tax probe.

“It would be wildly inappropriate if his dad’s AG was
involved in this matter.”
