Corpus Christi Police Department officers went to the La Palmera Mall after reports of a shooting there on Monday. CCPD Public Information Sr. Ofc. Travis Pace confirmed that cops had received a call for a shooting at the mall around 3:34 PM.

Pace added that officers arrived at the scene and then determined it was an isolated incident and not an active-shooter scenario.

“An employee came in (to P.F. Chang’s), got into a disturbance with another employee and it quickly escalated into a shooting”, he said, adding, “That suspect then fled the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment for gunshot wounds to the lower extremity and he’s in serious condition.”

The officer added that the victim’s injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

CCPD Public Information Officer Gena Peña also confirmed the news of the shooting being an “isolated incident” and that no active shooter was present.

Pena had also added that the shooter had been identified.

A manager at Grimaldi’s, the pizza place originally from New York, said “I just spoke to police”, adding, “Police officers told us we don’t have to lock our doors in any way. I think they contained the situation”, NBC-affiliated KRIS-TV reported.

While people were asked to avoid the area, the police investigation led them to the suspect’s vehicle at the 700 block of N. Staples St. at about 4:22 PM. The suspect was arrested without incident near Leopard and Staples streets, and the shooting is still being looked into.

The mall confirmed the shooting in a Facebook post.

It said, “The mall is secured and Corpus Christi Police Department is on-site as an investigation is underway”, adding, “Please continue business as usual, although traffic around the centre may be impacted for some time.”
