Lauren Cho, the 30-year-old
woman from New Jersey who has been missing since June 28, still remains to be
found but authorities in South California have found human remains near her
last known whereabouts, according to an NBC News report. Officials said that
the human remains have not been connected to Cho yet and identification of the
remains by the San Bernardino Country coroner could take weeks.

“The San Bernardino
Country Sheriff’s Department conducted an additional search and rescue
operation in the ongoing search for Lauren Cho,” authorities said in a statement
adding that during the search they found human remains located in the rugged
terrain of the open desert of Yucca Valley.

The location
largely matches the spot where Lauren Cho was last seen. Cho was seen last on
June 28 after 5 pm when she may have walked away from a short-term rental she
was using while travelling around with her friends and her ex-boyfriend.

Nearly one week
later, Cho’s family started a Facebook page titled “Missing Person: Lauren ‘El’
Cho to spread awareness about her disappearance. The case about Lauren Cho’s
disappearance was lost for a while but returned to the limelight after the
disappearance and death of social media influencer Gabby Petito.

The 22-year-old
Gabby Petito was found dead near Grand Teton National Park, and the remains
discovered in the search for Lauren Cho were found near the Joshua Tree
National Park. Gabby Petito’s disappearance stirred off a media frenzy which was
widely criticised as many believed that equal attention is not paid to
disappearances of other women.

After Laurence Cho
disappeared on June 28, authorities conducted an aerial search of the area near
her short-term rental. Following that, on-ground deputies search the property
where Cho had been staying. The San Bernadino Country Sheriff’s office put its specialised
investigations division on the case on September 21.
