US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell addressed the Republican National Convention on Thursday, in which he unleashed an attack on the Democrats. “Today’s Democrat party doesn’t want to improve life for middle America,” McConnell said in a pre-recorded message from his home state of Kentucky.
The 78-year old lawmaker who has been a senator since 1984 said the Democrats want to control everything in Americans’ lives, even “how many hamburgers you can eat”.
“They want to defund the police and take away your second amendment rights,” the senator said. The second amendment to the US Constitution protects the individual right to keep and bear arms.
He said that the Democrats want free healthcare for “illegal immigrants”, give no protections to “the unborn” and turn the country into a “swamp” like Washington.
In his address, he urged Americans to vote for Republican Senate candidates and President Donald Trump.
“We’ll continue to support American families as we defeat the coronavirus and return our economy to the envy of the world,” said McConnell.
“The stakes have never been higher. Which is why I’m asking you to support Republican Senate candidates across the country and re-elect my friend President Donald Trump,” he added.
