The incident took place around 9:30 am when Baker attempted to traffic stop a vehicle whose owner had six outstanding drug warrants, reported Fox News.

The owner of the vehicle, Nika Holbert was also hit and later pronounced dead when he was taken to a different medical facility, according to the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department (NMPD).

“Officer Baker approached the vehicle, learned that the owner of the car — the person with the outstanding warrants — was not the person driving and the situation devolved from there into a shootout. I know the Nashville community has Officer Baker in their thoughts and prayers as they do the other person involved here,” said Don Aaron, Nashville Police spokesperson.

The police are currently reviewing video recordings captured by Baker’s body camera.

After the shooting, Nika reportedly fled the scene and crashed the vehicle down an embankment.
