US rapper Lil Wayne has pleaded guilty to the charge of
possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and faces a sentence of up to 10
years, AFP reported on Friday citing US media reports.

The 38-year-old singer was found to be in possession of a
gold-plated pistol in a private jet last year by the US authorities.

“Your honor, I plead guilty,” he reportedly told
US District Judge Kathleen Williams during a virtual hearing.

The law enforcers also found what they said was cocaine,
ecstasy, marijuana, heroin, painkillers, and $25,000 in cash from him.

But the only crime which found mention in the chargesheet presented
to a court in Miami was that of possession of the firearm by a convicted felon.

The rapper whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. was
convicted more than a decade ago on a separate firearm charge. The US law
proscribes convicted felons from possessing firearms.

The five-time Grammy winner — who more recently made
headlines for meeting with and voicing support for President Donald Trump —
will face sentencing on January 28.
