United States
President Donald Trump on Friday issued an executive order to address the alleged
‘threat’ posted by Chinese video making app TikTok, saying that beginning in
45 days, any transaction subject to US jurisdiction with ByteDance is
prohibited, Reuters reported.

This comes after United States President Donald Trump last week said that he will bar video sharing app TikTok from the US after American authorities raised concerns that the app’s services can be misused by Chinese intelligence, reported AFP.

Donald Trump told reporters on Air Force One, “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States.”

Earlier in the day, there were reports about the US President preparing an order requiring the fast-growing social media app TikTok to be divested from its Chinese parent firm on national security grounds.

Short-form video app TikTok, a wildly popular app with young audiences viewing, has an estimated billion users worldwide. Trump had earlier said, “We’re looking at Tiktok. We may be banning TikTok. We may be doing some other things,” he said. “There are a couple of options, but a lot of things are happening.”

After signing the executive order, Trump, in letter to US Congressional leaders, said he is banning any transaction starting in 45 days with messenger app WeChat’s owner Tencent.
