Taking a jibe at President Donald Trump, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said that he was busy “plotting” while Americans were protesting systemic racism and police brutality after the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota. She made the statement at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.
The Mayor lashed out at Trump for forcibly removing protestors from the premises of White House, so that he could pose for a photo op in front of a church with a Bible in his hand.
“While we were protesting, Donald Trump was plotting. He stood in front of one of our most treasured houses of worship and held a Bible for a photo op. He sent troops in camouflage into our streets, he sent tear gas into the air and federal helicopters too,” she said.
Bowser said that if Trump did this to DC, he can do the same in any city or town in the US. She added that she wants her 2-year-old daughter to grow up in an America where she’s not scared to walk to the store.
“And that’s when I said enough. I said enough for every Black and Brown American who has experienced injustice. Enough for every American who believes in justice,” Bowser said.
Asking Americans to re-imagine a nation where “we the people” means “all the people,” she urged people to join in large numbers in November to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
The Democrats kicked off their virtual National Convention in the United States on Tuesday.
