Four suspects have been taken into custody after two people were dead and one person injured in a shooting in Utah’s West Valley City on Thursday.

The shooting took place on a sidewalk along 4100 South and the Mountain View Corridor.
“Officers are on scene at a shooting with multiple victims. Occurred on sidewalk along 4100 S in area between NB and SB lanes of Mountain View Corridor. Two people dead, one injured. Multiple suspects in custody,” West Valley City Police Department tweeted.

Police have not identified a motive yet but said that it appears that a dispute between two groups escalated into an altercation and ultimately, a shooting.
Several Granite School District schools, including Hunter High School, Hunter Junior High School, Hillside Elementary School and Whittier Elementary School, were temporarily placed under lockdown. All protocols have been lifted except those at Hunter High School.

Circumstances leading to the shooting were not known. No further information was available regarding the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Mountain View Corridor has been closed to traffic at 4100 South in both directions.

“They both were really good guys, we were close. If you needed anything, they’d be there for you, they were really great. I’m going to act like they’re still here and that they never left. I’m going to remember all the words and everything that they did for me,” a student who knew both of the boys killed said, as per Fox 13 report.

Keeping in mind that students may know some of the victims, grief counselors are being made available at the schools Thursday and Friday.
“Our hearts are broken that this has occurred,” said Ben Horsley with the Granite School District.
