The crucial FBI form that contained charges that Joe Biden and a foreign individual were involved in a criminal bribery plot was “briefed” to the U.S. Attorney who oversaw the federal investigation against Hunter Biden. According to the leading Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, this strategy entailed influence over US policy decisions.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote letters to Merrick Garland, the attorney general, and David Weiss, the Trump-appointed Delaware U.S. Attorney who oversaw the federal investigation into Hunter Biden, demanding answers in response to claims made by whistleblowers that the investigation was politicized and conducted slowly.
Who is David Weiss?
David Charles Weiss is a 67-year-old top federal prosecutor in Delaware.
Weiss is an American attorney. He has been the United States Attorney for the District of Delaware’s United States District Court since February 22, 2018.
From 1986 to 1989, Weiss worked as an assistant US attorney in Delaware, prosecuting both violent and white-collar crimes. After leaving the U.S. Attorney’s office, he worked as a partner and associate in the Duane Morris firm’s commercial litigation department as well as an executive at a financial services company. In 2007, he was appointed First Assistant U.S. Attorney and returned to the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office.
His appointment as US Attorney was approved on February 15, 2018, by voice vote. He took office on February 22, 2018. Weiss has been in charge of looking into Hunter Biden‘s financial activities, and former President Donald Trump urged him to stay on throughout the Biden administration.
Following this, Weiss—whom former colleagues characterized as an independent-minded career prosecutor—was given the responsibility of leading a very sensitive investigation of the Democratic president’s son, who had come under severe scrutiny from Republican lawmakers.
Later on, lawmakers gave Weiss credit for bringing corruption, money laundering, and drug offenses to justice as well as for assisting in securing federal funding to fight illegal drug trafficking in Delaware.
