John Meadors is a part of Creighton Waters’ team that is prosecuting Alex Murdaugh, who is accused of fatally shooting his wife and son at their South Carolina hunting property in 2021.
Who is John Meadors?
John Meadors is the criminal defense attorney for MBA, practicing primarily in Columbia, Lexington, Camden, Orangeburg, Aiken and Newberry counties. He did his BA from Wofford College and then was admitted to the South Carolina Bar. He was then admitted to the United States District Court in 1995.
Meadors is now a retired attorney who previously worked for the Fifth Circuit Solicitor’s office. He was assisting the lead prosecutor, Creighton Waters in the Murdaugh murders trial. He was hired because of his experience in January.
Creighton Waters is South Carolina’s senior assistant deputy attorney general. The case was sent to the attorney general’s office because of close familial ties between the Murdaugh family and the local solicitor’s office.
Prosecutor John Meadors argued in court on Thursday that Alex Murdaugh’s drug use on the night of his wife and son’s killings doesn’t explain his lying to police and general behavior. Murdaugh claimed that he sometimes took over 2,000 mg of oxycodone a day in the months before the deaths of his wife and son.
A doctor never prescribes more than 100 milligrams of oxycodone a day, even for the most severe acute or chronic pain.
