Pierre Zakrzewski, a 55-year-old cameraperson for Fox News died in Ukraine on Monday while reporting in Horenka with Fox News foreign affairs correspondent Benjamin Hall, network chief Suzanne Scott told employees on Tuesday.
Zakrzewski and Hall were on a reporting stint when their vehicle was hit by incoming fire.
Zakrzewski was a war photographer. He covered several major events in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan for the news channel.
According to Scott’s memo, the photographer was based in the city of London. With numerous talents, Zakrzewski would often jump in to perform various roles with ease and dedication. From working as an editor and a producer to being an engineer and a photographer at his job, Zakrzewski was often lauded for his work ethic and professionalism.

“He was wildly popular — everyone in the media industry who has covered a foreign story knew and respected Pierre,” the memo said.
A year ago, Zakrzewski was felicitated by the network with an ‘Unsung Hero’ award for assisting Afghan freelance associates and their family members move out of the country after the US withdrew troops.

A citizen of Ireland, Zakrzewski joined Fox News in 2015, working extensively from the frontlines in Iraq and Syria.
Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin stated that he is “deeply disturbed and saddened” by Zakrzewski’s death.

His death comes days after US filmmaker Brent Renaud died in war-hit Ukraine after Russian troops opened fire on his vehicle.
The Arkansas filmmaker was hit on the neck in Irpin, near Kyiv on Sunday while he was collecting material for a report on refugees.
The award-winning video journalist was 50. He died on the spot.
