The family of Rasheem Carter will hold a protest on Saturday after being informed that a third set of his remains was located. According to a statement released by attorney Ben Crump and Carter’s family, the Mississippi Crime Lab informed the family that remains found on February 23 matched Rasheem Carter’s DNA.

The family wants to know what happened to Rasheem. Also, they want the additional remains to be returned to them so that they can lay him to rest.

Who was Rasheem Carter?

Rasheem Carter, a Black man from Mississippi, disappeared last October after claiming he was being targeted by white men in his community. He was found dead with his head severed from his body.

Carter was born in October 1996. He graduated from high school in 2015. He was also a football and baseball player. Later, he went on to study welding and cutting at a nearby community college. In 2019, Carter started a seafood business named after his daughter Cali in Fayette city.

Carter’s remains were found in a wooded area south of Taylorsville on November 2, 2022. His spinal cord was recovered in a separate area from his head.

He told his mother Tiffany Carter about being targeted by white men in the community.

According to Tommy Cox, chief of the Laurel Police Department, Carter visited the Taylorsville Police Department on two different occasions leading up to his disappearance. Cox filed the initial missing person’s case after the family came to them for help.

A federal investigation into Carter’s death has been demanded by Carter’s family and attorneys. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is also probing the case.

The medical examiner stated that the manner and cause of death were undetermined, according to an autopsy report by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office.

The condition of the remains at the time of autopsy makes it difficult to determine the exact timing of the injuries, and states there were signs of animal activity on the remain clouding the picture.
