Who was Shannan Gilbert?

Shannan Gilbert was one of the victims. She was discovered dead in a swamp at Oak Beach in 2011, roughly a quarter mile from the location of her last sighting. According to the family’s attorney, the 24-year-old’s neck had a puncture hole that might have been caused by a drill and was broken before she was killed.

Police discovered four more women buried in burlap bags when they were looking for her, establishing her long-standing connection to the unsolved Gilgo Beach murders. The four women, who eventually became known as the “Gilgo Beach Four,” were working as escorts on Craigslist.

On the night she vanished, Shannan called 911 in a panic after being seen pounding on doors in the gated Oak Beach neighborhood while crying for help. Gilbert said, “Somebody’s after me. There’s somebody after me. There’s somebody after me!”.
