Social
media platform YouTube suspended former US President Donald Trump’s channel
indefinitely from the platform and also barred his lawyer, Rudy
Giuliani, from monetising his client’s clips, a report in US media said.

“In
light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence, the Donald Trump
channel will remain suspended,” a YouTube spokesperson told Politico.

The
Google-owned company, already facing public backlash for its slow and less aggressive response on
Trump, who played a monumental role in instigating violence during the capitol
riots, made the suspension announcement a week after it extended the ban on
Trump in view of Joe Biden’s inauguration.

YouTube, in a separate statement, clarified that Giuliani’s account would also be barred from the Partner Program — which allows creators to make money off their videos.

According
to the video uploading platform, Giuliani will be able to appeal the decision in 30 days providing that the underlying issues have been fixed.

The indefinite suspension is imposed on the grounds of repeated violations of YouTube’s misleading policy after he posted videos titled “The Biden Crime Family’s Payoff Scheme” and “Election Theft of the Century” alleging fraud in the US elections.

The
ban on monetising Trump’s Youtube clips comes as the former New York mayor
faces a $1.3 billion lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems after the latter claimed
on social media that the firm had engaged in election fraud.

However, Trump’s Youtube channel had almost 2.77 million subscribers and the home page of his channel features a month-old video, in which Trump cast doubt on the voting process.
