Monday marks the birthday of George Washington, which is also known as Presidents’ Day. Today, Biden made an unannounced visit to Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine on Monday ahead of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of the country. During his visit, Biden announced $500 million of additional assistance to Ukraine.

The POTUS was seen walking across the Ukrainian capital with the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky as air raid sirens sounded in the area. While the president was praised by many for braving the visit, a number of GOP members slammed him for abandoning his own country on the federal holiday and showing up on a different land.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on Twitter: “This is incredibly insulting. Today on our President’s Day, Joe Biden, the President of the United States chose Ukraine over America, while forcing the American people to pay for Ukraine’s government and war. I can not express how much Americans hate Joe Biden.”

This is the US president’s first visit to the country since Russian troops invaded on February 24, 2022. “I will announce another delivery of critical equipment, including artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems, and air surveillance radars to help protect the Ukrainian people from aerial bombardments,” he was quoted as saying in a White House statement.
