According to the Minneapolis Police Department, two people were shot dead and eight others were wounded in a shooting in downtown Minneapolis, a city in the American state of Minnesota.

One of the injured is currently in serious condition, while the remaining seven have non-life-threatening wounds, according to the police.

Minneapolis Police Department tweeted order had been “fully restored to the scene and surrounding areas.”

The ten shooting victims are all adults, five males, and five females, according to police, and any active threat has been ruled out. Both of the deceased victims were men.

According to Minneapolis Police Department PIO John Alder, as reported by KMSP-TV, the shooting was triggered by a confrontation between two individuals who each took out weapons and began shooting at each other.

To assist in the search, additional law enforcement personnel have been called upon, Alder added.

Victims’ and offenders’ identities were not made public. No arrests have been made yet.

This occurred in the city centre along block 300 of the North 1st Avenue.

Friday’s bloodshed is preceded by several recent shootings in the city including a six-year-old girl’s death earlier this week. Aniya Allen was shot in the head while in a vehicle.

The downtown part of Minneapolis was also where George Floyd was murdered by a police officer in May 2020.

Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a 17-year veteran of the Minneapolis police department.

Chauvin was convicted on April 20 of murder and manslaughter for his role in Floyd’s death, which sparked protests against racial injustice and police brutality around the world.
