Australia has declared its intention to add a far right extremist group which goes by the name The Base and the entirety of the Lebanese group Hezbollah to the country’s list of outlawed terrorist organizations.

While Hezbollah’s External Security Organization has been included in the list of terrorist organizations since 2003 under the country’s Criminal Code, the intention is to include all of its entities, as revealed by  Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews on Wednesday.

Once all entities of Hezbollah start being recognized as a terrorist organization all those who are a member of or supporting the group will be guilty of a criminal offense.

“The group continues to threaten terrorist attacks and provides support to terrorist organizations,” Karen Andrews said in a statement.

The Base is an organization which was originally forned in the United States of America. Since then, it is set to become only the second far-right group to be labelled a terrorist organization in Australia.

The first ever far-right group to be designated a terrorist organization was the British-based Sonnenkrieg Division. It was listed in August.

Other than these, the 25 terrorist organizations which are a part of Australia’s outlawed terrorist organizations list are all Muslim groups.

Karen Andrews said, “The Base is a violent, racist, neo-Nazi group known by security agencies to be planning and preparing terrorist attacks.”

“The Base is currently proscribed as a terrorist organization by the governments of Canada and the United Kingdom and is known to have organized paramilitary training camps overseas,” she added.

Karen Andrews has written to the state and territory governments to talk about the two proposed listings and aims to get the listings finalized as soon as possible.

Hezbollah is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and militant group which is led by Hassan Nasrallah. It was founded in 1982 and is loyal to the Resistance Bloc party of Lebanon.
