Chinese officials volunteered to mediate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, as the conflict enters its 12th day on Monday. Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister, also boasted about the country’s “rock-solid” relations with Russia.
Wang Yi, in a statement on Monday, said that his country is “willing to work with the international community to carry out necessary mediation”, according to reports from AFP.

China’s top diplomat added, “The friendship between the two peoples is rock-solid, and both sides’ future cooperation prospects are very vast.”
“No matter how perilous the international landscape, we will maintain our strategic focus and promote the development of comprehensive China-Russia partnership in the new era”, Wang Yi said.
China has mostly taken a diplomatic stance on the ongoing invasion of Ukraine and has not condemned the actions of Russia– considered to be one the biggest strategic partners of Beijing.
Not upsetting either side, China’s foreign minister had something for both Ukraine and Russia. He announced that China would be providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, he also called China and Russia’s partnership as “the world’s most crucial bilateral relationship” that is crucial to global “peace, stability and development”, according to reports from AFP.
Following up on a promise that has been made multiple times, Beijing vowed to play a “constructive role in calling for negotiations” between Ukraine and Russia.

A similar suggestion was made by Josep Borrell, the foreign policy head for European Union. Borrell said in an interview last week that China should moderate future peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. He said western powers would not be able to fulfill the role, according to reports from AFP.
United States was blamed for the conflict in Ukraine by China citing the sanctions on Russia following the invasion.
