On the eight day of the French Open in Paris, thirteen seed Andrey Rublev defeated Kevin Anderson in straight sets to progress to the fourth round of the tournament. The Russian mauled Kevin Anderson 6-3,6-2,6-3 to clinch a place in the fourth round of the French tournament. Rublev will now face Marton Fucsovics for a place in the quarter-finals.
ATP rank 183, Daniel Altmaier, defeated seventh seed Matteo Berrettini in the major upset of the day. The Italian Berrettini lost the match in three sets 2-6,6-7,4-6 against German counterpart Altmaier. Altmaier served 4 aces in the course of the match and converted four of his seven break points against Italian Berrettini and also won 14 service points.
17th seed Pablo Carreno Busta defeated tenth seed fellow countryman Roberto Bautista in four sets. Busta served 11 aces during his match and won the match 4-6,3-6,7-5,4-6 despite converting only seven of his 17 breakpoints. Busta also made three double faults during the match.
Sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas won his third-round encounter with Aljaz Bedene in a walkover. Tsitsipas was leading Bedene 6-1,6-2 when the Slovenian was forced to retire from the match. Tsitsipas will now play Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.
Grigor Dimitrov also reached the fourth round of the French Open following a walkover against Roberto Carballes Baena.
Russian tennis player Karen Khachanov beat Cristian Garin in a four-set thriller to reach the fourth round of the tournament. The 24-year-old Russian served three aces and clinched the match 6-2,3-6,6-4,6-2 against Garin.
In the Women’s Singles tournament of the French Open, fourth seed Sofia Kenin trounced Irina Bara in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Kenin who won the Australian Open earlier in the year, dispatched her Romanian rival to progress to the fourth round of the tournament.
Ons Jabeur became the first Arab woman to reach the Round of 16 at the Roland Garros and caused a major upset when she dumped eight seed Aryna Sabalenka in a three-set thriller. The Tunisian beat Sabalenka 6-7,6-2,3-6 in “a gusty performance” to reach her first Round of 16 tie in Paris.
