Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old who went missing in August during a cross-country travel, died
three to four weeks before her body was found September 19 near an undeveloped
camping area along the border of Grand Teton National Park in remote northern
Wyoming. This was revealed by the Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue, who said
the cause of Petito’s death was strangulation.

As soon as the news of the cause of her death broke out, social
media users started a conversation around the case as well as abusive
relationships in general, with most people blaming Pateito’s boyfriend Brian
Laundrie, who is absconding, for her murder. People also questioned why there
was a press conference on the case and why the world needs to know about the
cause of her death.

“Makes me sad that anyone other than the family of #GabbyPetito and the investigators needs to know the cause
of death. Maybe I’m missing something: why should that be public information?
Why does it need to be a headline? Why are people so damned snoopy?,” a user
tweeted.

“Gabby Petito died from strangulation. I just left an
abusive relationship where my ex would strangle me to the point I started
blacking out. Please, if you are in this type of situation, leave before it’s
too late,” another user tweeted.

“HE needed her. SHE never needed him. Prayers for
#GabbyPetito family. Find this murderer!! #fbi #fbimostwanted #dirtylaundrie,”
a user said about Laundrie.

“It’s very hard to watch the news on Gabby Petito. A
beautiful young woman gone. What is it about us that makes taking a beautiful
life so easy? She was left dead for weeks!!!! What the fuck is wrong with us?
Are we so morally corrupt that murder like this is so easy. So easy,” a user
asked.
