Liverpool dropped points in the Premier League title race with a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Manager Jurgen Klopp was seen charging at the referee after the game, objecting some controversial decisions that might have dented their chance to win the English top-league title. 

 “I have no problems with any referees – only you!” Klopp could be heard saying.

The German manager felt that Harry Kane should have been sent off in the first half for a challenge of Andy Robertson. The Spurs striker was only shown a yellow. Later in the half, Diogo Jota had penalty appeals waved off after a challenge from Emerson Royal.

Robertson was shown a red card for a challenge on Royal. While Klopp did not object to this particular decision he questioned why it warranted a VAR review when Kane’s foul did not.

Immediately after the final whistle, Klopp went to referee Tierney and said, “I have no problems with any referees – only you! You’re telling me it’s not a penalty because he [Jota] stops?”

The Liverpool boss, talking to Sky Sports, said, “There were obviously many other things that were influential in this game, but some of these questions are better to ask Mr Tierney. We can give Robbo a red card, it’s not the smartest challenge of his life. But [Kane’s challenge] is definitely a red card, no doubt about it.”

“So we have a VAR sitting there, and he has a look again at the Robbo situation. Fine, that’s what he’s there for. What did he do in the Kane situation?”

Harry Kane scored only his second goal of the Premier League season for Tottenham. Tanguy Ndombele slipped Kane in after Harry Winks had won the ball back. Kane — last season’s top scorer in the league — sent the ball into the far corner in the 13th minute.

Diogo Jota headed Liverpool level in the 35th and Andrew Robertson nodded the visitors in front from close range in the 69th. Spurs players were furious as they thought Dele Alli was fouled in Liverpool’s penalty area in the buildup but the appeals were dismissed.

Spurs needed just five minutes to equalize as Alisson Becker made a mess of clearing Harry Winks’ ball through, allowing Son Heung-min to slot into an empty net.
