In a devastating incident that unfolded on Saturday night, a group of individuals gathered at Popo Molefe informal settlement in Boitekong, near Rustenburg, faced an abrupt and violent end. The victims, five men and four women, were engaged in an evening of camaraderie and shared moments when a group of assailants, speaking Sesotho, stormed in and indiscriminately opened fire.

The motive behind this heinous act remains shrouded in mystery, as police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone reported that, according to available information, the assailants targeted a primarily Xhosa-speaking group. The attack resulted in the instantaneous death of eight individuals, while the ninth succumbed to injuries upon reaching the hospital. Additionally, eight others sustained injuries during the brutal assault.
