Moscow’s troops have fired over 950 missiles since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, according to a senior US defense official.
The official added that the Pentagon “continues to assess limited to no progress by Russian ground forces in achieving their objectives,” stating that the Russian troops have not advanced closer to Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv and are nearly 10 miles northwest of the city and about 13 miles to the east.
According to the anonymous official, Russia’s forces are “still about 15-20 kilometers to the northwest and about 20-30 kilometers to the east” of Kyiv. Most of the targets include residential areas.
“Kyiv remains under bombardment by long-range fires,” the official said.
The official added that security assistance from the United States and other countries “continues” to be provided to war-hit Ukraine. In the last 24 hours, the shipments that landed in Ukraine “did include weapons.”
