Donald Trump, along with daughter Ivanka and Don Jr, attempted to block the subpoenas from Letitia James, New York’s Attorney General, in a probe linked to the Trump Organization allegedly manipulating the values of its properties.

The former President’s legal representation said that Attorney General James is looking to “circumvent the entire grand jury process”, which in turn would set the stage for a “dangerous precedent.”

The lawyers said in a court filing that James is attempting to put the ongoing investigation to her advantage to aid another investigation being carried out by Manhattan’s District Attorney’s office, according to reports from CNN.

In response to the Trump’s blocking the subpoenas, the New York Attorney General responded, “Despite their names, they must play by the same rules as everyone else. These delay tactics will not stop us from following the facts or the law, which is why we will be asking the court to compel Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump to testify with our office under oath.”

The former President has also attempted to permanently block the civil investigation through a lawsuit in a federal court, which claimed that the attorney general had violated the Republican’s constitutional rights in a “thinly-veiled effort to publicly malign Trump and his associates.”

In the past, the Republican ex-president has decried James’ investigation as part of a “witch hunt” along with a parallel criminal probe being run by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, according to reports from Associated Press.
