In a recent interview, Mike Reiss, a writer for the iconic TV show “The Simpsons,” shared his firsthand experience aboard the submersible Titan during a trip to explore the wreckage of the RMS Titanic. The ongoing search for the missing tourist submersible has sparked interest in the challenges faced by those who venture into the depths of the ocean.

Reiss revealed that he had previously dived with OceanGate Expeditions, the company that owns the Titan, which led him to sign up for the remarkable journey. Descending into the depths, Reiss and his wife had a limited time of less than half an hour to witness the remains of the ill-fated ocean liner that sank in 1912.

The writer described the difficulty of reaching the Titanic due to the hazardous conditions, with the added challenge of an approaching hurricane. He emphasized the tight window they had to explore the ocean floor, saying, “We really had this tight window.

You sort of land at the bottom of the ocean and then go, ‘All right, where’s the Titanic?’ We know it’s around here somewhere.”

Reiss highlighted the issue of communication loss faced by the Titan during the expedition. The participants were well aware of the dangers involved, having signed a lengthy waiver that mentioned possible death multiple times. Despite these concerns, Reiss admitted that the thought of potential peril crossed his mind as he boarded the underwater vehicle.

Reflecting on his experience, Reiss’s account offers insight into the risks and uncertainties faced by those embarking on deep-sea exploration missions. As the search for the missing submersible continues, his perspective adds to the understanding of the challenges encountered in exploring the depths of the ocean.
