At 7 feet and 0.7 inches, Rumeysa Gelgi is considered the world’s tallest woman by The Guinness World Records. She also holds three more world records. 

Gelgi holds the record for “largest hands on a living person” (female), with measurements of her right hand amounting to 24.93 cm and the left hand measuring up to 24.26 cm. She also has the longest back (female) in the world with a length of 59.9 cm. 

In 2014 when she was 18, Gelgi was announced as the world’s tallest teenager. Last year, when her weight was measured again she was given the title of the world’s longest woman.

The Indian Express reported that Gelgi was born on January 1, 1997. She is a lawyer, researcher, and front-end developer. 

Gelgi’s extremely tall height can be attributed to Weaver syndrome,  a very rare syndrome that is responsible for several abnormalities including the accelerated growth of one’s skeletal. 

The Indian Express  quoted Gelgi after being awarded the new records as saying, “World’s can’t even describe how excited and happy I feel right now.” “My family and people around me are very supportive. Being the only woman with this kind of height, makes me feel very special,” she added. She is the only one in the family to exhibit symptoms of Weaver syndrome. 

In a video posted on YouTube  by Guinness World Record, she spoke about how she was bullied as a child. “I got bullied a lot as a kid, but that one of the benefits of being tall is that you can hold Guinness World Records,” she said. Gelgi has to use a wheelchair mostly to get around. 

Meanwhile, the record for the world’s tallest man is held by Sultan Kosen. At 251 cm, (8 ft 2.82 in), Kosen who is from Turkey, holds the record for the world’s tallest man.
